Cognia Accreditation

 

In June 2025, Sargent Central Public School District completed its Cognia Accreditation Engagement Review, an external process that evaluates school culture, leadership, learning practices, and student outcomes. The district’s previous review was conducted in 2019. Accreditation is a continuous improvement journey, and the district is proud to share that Sargent Central remains fully accredited through Cognia.

Key highlights

The review team recognized several strengths that reflect the district’s mission of “helping others create themselves, things, and opportunities”:

  • Positive Culture of Learning – A respectful, inclusive environment supported by SEL practices, expanded Pre-K, school-based mental health services, and strong relationships fostered by small class sizes.

  • Community and Family Engagement – Parents and community members are actively involved in school events, planning, and decision-making, reinforcing our “Together is Central” vision.

  • Academic Achievement – In 2024, Sargent Central students exceeded state averages in 14 of 17 state exams, with consistent growth especially in reading and science.

  • Personalized Learning Opportunities – 1:1 technology, project-based learning, SmartLab, dual credit courses, and enrichment programs expand student choice and support success.

  • Dedicated and Stable Staff – High retention, strong collaboration, and ongoing professional development ensure students are supported by experienced, caring educators.

Areas for Growth

As part of our improvement journey, the review also identified priorities for continued progress:

  • Increase student engagement through project-based and collaborative learning experiences, student voice, and purposeful use of technology.

  • Establish consistent evaluation cycles for instructional programs and district processes to identify gaps and strengthen outcomes.

  • Expand collaborative professional learning structures so teachers can use classroom-level data and reflection to improve instruction.

Looking ahead

Sargent Central is committed to celebrating its successes while addressing areas for growth. The district will continue to engage staff, students, parents, and the community in this work to ensure our district provides safe, engaging, and high-quality learning opportunities for every student.
